About Khmer Style

Khmer Style is a bilingual music project bridging Cambodian heritage with global pop. Founded in 2024 by French-Cambodian artist Richard Vy and Cambodian cultural curator Thany Vy, the project transforms personal cross-cultural experiences into universal stories through modern electro-pop.

Working across continents - Richard and Thany in France, the couple creates music that serves as both cultural preservation and evolution. Each song blends Khmer pentatonic emotional phrasing with contemporary pop production, sung in both Khmer and English to reach diaspora communities and global audiences simultaneously.

Their "Echoes" series - four albums exploring journey, hope, sorrow, and healing-represents a complete emotional and cultural arc. The project employs transparent AI-assisted production while maintaining human-led creative direction, positioning Khmer Style at the intersection of tradition, technology, and transformation.

"To keep culture alive, we must let it grow. Khmer Style proves that pop music can elevate heritage, not dilute it."  Khmer Style manifesto

The Artists

Richard Vy

Founder, Artist, Producer

French-Cambodian music producer and songwriter redefining modern pop with Khmer identity. Richard handles composition, production, and AI-assisted arrangement while maintaining complete creative control. His full-time IT background informs his approach to ethical technology use in music creation.

"AI is a brush, not the artist. I use it to amplify human emotion, never to replace it."

Thany Vy

Cultural Curator, Lyricist

Richard'spouse, Thany serves as cultural curator and Khmer lyricist, ensuring authenticity in language, themes, and emotional resonance. Her deep connection to Cambodian heritage guides the project's cultural integrity while embracing modern global sound.

"Our lyrics are seeds—they will sprout in the hearts of those who listen."

In Their Own Words

Direct answers about purpose, process, and legacy

Why do you create music?

I create music for my family. For my wife Thany. For my son Louis.

My songs are also a souvenir for the next generation when we are gone. Music keeps feelings alive. It protects memories.

Why do you use AI?

I use AI because it’s a powerful tool that allows me to create without needing a studio. Since I often work independently, it helps streamline the process and saves valuable time.

The ideas are mine. The emotion is mine. AI only assists.

Does AI remove the human essence?

No. I decide the words. I decide the melodies. AI is a tool. The intention is human. The message is personal.

What themes do you explore?

Family. Love. Regret. Responsibility. Culture, Joy, Parentality, .

Many songs are messages for Thany and Louis. They are also memories for the next generation after us.

What is your link to Cambodian heritage?

I was born in France. My roots are Cambodian. I carry my parents' story and my unknown family history.

I use Khmer to keep the language alive in modern pop. I want a simple and honest identity.

What does legacy mean to you?

A clear memory. A message that stays even when I am gone. A souvenir for my son. A link for the next generation.

"I create music so my family and the next generation can hear who I was, even when I am no longer here."

Richard Vy
